Etiology of Cleft Lip and Palate

Abstract
Cleft lip and cleft palate are congenital diseases in which the underlying pathological mechanisms occur before birth congential diseases may be classified into two main groups. 1. those that are inherited i.e. by passing of abnoraml genes/chromosomes from one or both parents to their child. 2. those that are acquired i.e. arise sporadically through genetic mutation or direct assault on the fetus by environemental factors.
