Detection of Hetrozygous Beta Thalasseaemia in Parents and Grand Parents of Known Beta Thalassaemia Major children

Abstract
One hundred families of known beta thalassemia major children were analyzed at PGMI LRH Peshawar for the detection of beta thalassaemia trait. The screening was performed in the parents and grandparents (both maternal as well as paternal). Beta thalassaemia trait was detected in all the families. The overall 415 cases (69.2%) out of 600 subjects were beta thalassaemia carrier trait.
